Yes, Italy is everything you expect it to be and more. From the skyscraping Dolomites in the North, to the adorable trulli of Puglia in the South, with the lush hills of Tuscany and Le Marche in between, Italy is the place of your dreams. Hike your way across the Ligurian coastline to see the colorful villages of Cinque Terre, or head over on a ferry to Sardinia to watch flamingos. More interested in a romantic weekend? Then visit the idyllic canals of Venice or lounge on the banks of the Como Lake. Be careful though, you might never want to leave!
Have you ever been hit in the head by an orange? Well, I have, and although it hurt, the experience was a lot of fun. I am talking about the Battle of the Oranges here: part of the Carnival of Ivrea in Italy, it has been practiced for centuries. Wessel and I were lucky enough to be invited to this unique tradition last February, so now we can tell you what it was really like to be covered in orange juice, and more!
This spring my parents celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with us on Sicily. As with any party, good food is non-negotiable. So, we tried the nicest restaurants and cafés around the southern and eastern part of the island, with wine of course. As both my sister and I cannot eat gluten, most of these restaurants were perfect for us too. Pizza, pasta, and even croissants filled our bellies that week, so scroll down to read the complete gluten free Sicily guide!
